Two sisters, one home studio, and a shared ritual that sparked something magical. Founded by two sisters in Chile, Doble Reina crafts elegant ceramic smoking pieces that celebrate the intersection of design and plant rituals. With a focus on elevating the cannabis experience through thoughtful design and craftsmanship, they're redefining what wellness tools can look and feel like.
With the range exclusively available in Australia through Astrid Alchemy, we spoke with the duo to learn more about their journey, creative process, and vision for a more inclusive industry.
How did Doble Reina come to be?
As sisters and best friends, ever since we were little, our dream had always been to work together. Cannabis was something we both experienced as adults, and when we shared it as sisters, it became a cherished ritual, something we bonded over deeply. One day, while scouting for inspiration on what we wanted to create together, we stumbled upon a smokeshop run by two older women. Their space was welcoming and filled with creativity, unlike anything we had ever seen before. In that moment, we realised that our experiences in smokeshops had always felt uncomfortable, uninspiring and purely transactional. It felt as if we had travelled into the future, a glimpse of the possibilities that awaited. This experience sparked the need to create products that truly reflected who we are—pieces that could stand proudly alongside other objects that are dear to us, that are both elegant and playful. We wanted to share the way we experienced cannabis, highlighting the sweetness and joy it brings into our lives, and the invitation it extends to be present and connect with the ones we love.
We started our brand in the midst of a social uprising in Chile, and at the start of the COVID pandemic. Due to the sensitive nature of that time, we had to pivot a lot of our initial ideas, but felt fuelled by the strength of the feminist movement in Chile and the common longing for a kinder future. We chose to see lockdown as an opportunity to learn new crafts and immerse ourselves in designing and hand making our products almost to the point of obsession. Our home became our studio, and our new passion was officially launched in August 2020.
What’s the meaning behind the name ‘Doble Reina’?
Doble Reina translates to “double queen”. It’s a beekeeping technique where one hive production is managed with two queen bees, creating a harmonious coexistence of two colonies as one. Research shows that honey production is quadrupled under this method.
This inspired us deeply, because we believe that when women come together, we are more than just the sum of our parts—we uplift and empower each other to create things we could have never imagined on our own.
Who are you making products for?
One of the main reasons we started our project was because we rarely felt seen in the cannabis space. When we started our project, there was a lack of diversity in the cannabis industry in Chile, and women were used as a marketing strategy and not addressed as a consumer (let alone the queer community). We wanted to create a brand that spoke from a place of joy and wonder, that celebrates the feminine energy of cannabis. We want to connect to people who are aesthetically minded and find meaning and playfulness in rituals. People who value quality and are drawn to heirloom-worthy items and functional art they can proudly display in their homes.
What product from your range are you most excited about right now?
Our bubbler fills us with joy every time we see it. We designed this piece to blend beautifully with a home’s artwork and decor—not just for its aesthetic value, but because we believe that thoughtful design can be a subtle yet powerful form of activism. When an object like this sparks curiosity or admiration, it can open doors for genuine conversations and help bridge understanding, even for those unfamiliar with or hesitant about our community. Being able to showcase a relationship with cannabis in a discreet, tasteful, and playful way brings a sense of pride, allowing us to keep these pieces out in the open rather than hidden away.
What's been the most surprising aspect of running a business in this niche market?
One of the most surprising and inspiring aspects of working in this niche has been witnessing the incredible solidarity among women and LGBTQ+ business owners, activists, and influencers in the industry. There’s a genuine willingness to uplift one another, with a shared understanding that when one of us succeeds, it positively impacts us all. This collaborative spirit feels deeply aligned with the mindset that cannabis can foster—encouraging openness, empathy, and a sense of shared growth, both emotionally and intellectually.
How do you envision the future of plant-powered wellness?
We believe plant-powered products play a key role in bringing joy into the world and giving space to pleasure in the modern wellness space. To us, cannabis embodies a nurturing, feminine energy that, when consumed with intention, promotes creativity, introspection, connectedness, and mindfulness. Our brand is dedicated to highlighting these attributes, creating products that invite people to slow down, enjoy the present moment, and fully embrace the joy and beauty that cannabis can bring to their lives.
When we started our project, the cannabis scene was a heavily male-dominated industry. Since then, we’ve seen how women in Chile and around the world are becoming leaders in envisioning a future of cannabis reparations, inclusion, community building, education and creative expression. Women and diversity are assets in the industry that not only allow for a better understanding of cannabis consumers but also creates the space for creativity to run wild.
In Chile, we can see how brands are slowly understanding that there are consumers who have been overlooked, creating endless possibilities for growth. Our brand has become a welcoming place for occasional consumers, older clients who are exploring cannabis for the first time, or have felt unseen in their journey with the plant.
Looking forward, we aim to contribute to a cannabis culture that is inclusive, intentional and caring, where plant-powered wellness will evolve to become a part of everyday rituals for adults of all ages and walks of life. Our vision is to support this transformation by creating beautiful and meaningful pieces that elevate the cannabis experience.
